View Full Version : Suspention Bushing Material

I have a 87 325is. It never comes out of the garage except for the weekends and has about 170k on many of the original rubber bushings. As soon as our baby is here and i find a house with a two or three car garage, i would like to start going to track events. Any thoughts on solid, delrin, Urethane ,rubber, etc. would be helpful as i am going to go through the car and replace all/most.

I would not do delrin or solid and don't even think polyurethane is worth it.
I have polyurethane rear trailing arm bushings and subframe bushings.
If I had to do it over I'd stick to stock.
I do have solid M3 lower control arm bushings though.

On the E30 type suspension I think that poly rear subframe mounts are a must. Other poly bushings are fine, and do help out a track/autocross oriented car. However if you street drive the car, poly bushings are a bit harsher.

Delrin and solid bushings are best for track only cars, that are seldom street driven. LOTS of NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) and more maintenance as they need to be lubed and checked for wear.

Face it E30's are loud. Mine has devolped rattle only in the last year due to the J stock suspension.
