96 M3 Keyless Entry

The keyless entry to my '96 M3 recently stopped working. Whenever I try to engage it, I get three quick beeps. Can anyone tell me what this means and how to correct it? I bought the car used and do not have the manual for the security system and have not been able to find any info on the Web.

something is open. trunk, door, hood, something. either that or one of the door/hood/trunk sensors is dead/misaligned and sending an "open" signal to the alarm brain. i'd check the hood sensor first, it is easily bumped. front passenger side of engine compt.
